There is a bug with the latest version of EverQuest that resets BitsPerPixel in eqclient.ini to 0. This causes EQ to reset it's color depth to 16-bit even if you have selected 32-bit previously. Until the bug is fixed by SOE you must use one of the following workarounds:

1. turn on the fix eqclient.ini EQW option and reload EQW any time you go back to the server select screen

or

2. change your desktop to 16-bit

Im running windows 2000 with eq, and before they released this stupid ALT TAB crap with eq, eqw was working fine. Now, eventhough im using the latest eqw version 232, i still am getting that crash after server select displaying a message, " Eqgame.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows" although that was only happening sometimes. I tried what was mentioned in the above post, about Fixing the client.ini or changing the desktop to a 16 bit mode.. well now i cant see my char select screen. Once i select my server and hit play everquest, the screen just minimizes itself and i cant maximize it it, the screen just is not there, and then i see my mouse locked in the upper left hand corner.. I tried changing back to 32 bit and it is still doing it. When i was getting that Eqgame.exe has generated errors error, it was only when i d try to two box, if i just used 1 eqw client it worked fine. now i cant use eqw at all, is anyone else having this problem or can give me some help? thanks Rolling Eyes

All I can tell you is what I am using, and see if your setup is near the same. -

Win2000 box (most recent SP) 2.2 Ghrz
Over 1GB Ram

installed 1st EQ with all patches (made sure it worked correctly)
Copied that entire folder /sony/everquest to a /EQ folder on root dir (C)
installed EQW also into /EQ but in EQW subfolder
Uninstalled EQ from machine - /sony/everquest
configured eqw .ini file to point to /EQ/eqgame.exe and tried it made sure it still worked

installed 2nd EQ with all patches as normal install
installed EQW into default dir
configured 2nd eqw .ini file to go to /sony/everquest/eqgame.exe

Using 16-bit color depth both on desktop and in-game (both settings)
Also ONLY using sound on second install - the copied version is using No sound - but all graphics are enabled

This has been working for me all weekend after the 2.32 patch, I just re-installed everything to be sure it was going to work. I am once again a happy dualboxer - on a single 2K machine.

Hope this helps

running windows xp with a 16bit desktop

loaded eqw232 with fix eq.ini option

checked eqclient.ini for the bitsperpixel line (even though it shouldnt matter with a 16bit desktop). line value is 16.

it lets me load up to the character selection screen, but after i attempt to enter the world, it drops me to desktop with no error message.

any clues?

edit: using geforce2 video card, which has worked magnificently with eqw in the past, and works fine in both fullscreen and windowed modes of normal everquest.

I did all those, however what I also did was install the new version of EQW to a new directory and bam, it was working again. I was still having the no key board function problem.

thanks!

Well hope this helps people even thou it's not a total fix. I'm having the same problem of EQ crashing to desktop ater selecting character and trying to enter world. No error message just EQ closes and I am back to deaktop. If I go into the character ini file ( UI_YOURNAME_36.ini ) and set it to use the default skin then everything loads up fine and I can play in game with no problems. If even after being in game I try to load any skin at all, it crashes to desktop. I have no idea why it's doing this but hope someone can shed some light on this

What version of DX you guys using? I have seen none of these problems on 3 systems, 1) winxp gf4, 2) win2k gf2mmx, 3) laptop savage/ix.

I'm using DX9 on all 3 systems, all 3 in 32-bit.

dx8, just upgraded to dx9 today and still working.

it seems to be something with skins it seems. i havnt done any UI mods, so i havnt tried to isolate the problem.

i was having the problem using Jaryn UI.

They have no support for multiple Windows yet... its funny they have a whole team... JSD is one man... my guess is correct ... they have nothing but idiots up there working behind this game

Wow... i got mine to work... here how...

went to the folder where EQW was installed.
Opened the file EQW.INI
saw this...[General]
EQExe=c:\program files\everquest\eqgame.exe
FixEQIni=TRUE
[Hotkeys]
ReleaseMouse=Ctrl Alt R
ReloadIni=Ctrl Alt I
EQWSwitch=Ctrl Alt S
[Positions]
640by480X=189
1640by480Y=132
1024by768X=-32000
1024by768Y=-32000
0by0X=0
0by0Y=0

Hmm...
1024by768X=-32000
1024by768Y=-32000
WTF was this..

any ways, reset the -32000's to 0's and it worked again, go figure, prolly has something to do with being outside of the visible desktop...

just my two copper

I thought you always had to load one window all the way into game before you started the second window. Is this not correct?

Ok, for those of you trying to run eqw and keep crashing from character selection screen to desktop without any error, and are currently running a custom UI, here is how to get it to work...

Log on the normal way to EQ, not using eqw....once in game, /load default 1....and then log out to desktop....

Reload this time using eqw, and see if you successfully make it into game....if you do, go to next step....if you dont, you're still screwed Twisted Evil

Make a new custom UI folder, and name it whatever you please, and then copy all the default files into the new custom folder....

After that, go to the custom UI folder which was crashing you to desktop after character selection screen, and start copying over your custom UI files one by one into the newest custom folder....each time you copy over a file from the custom UI folder that was crashing you, reload eqw and make sure you can get into game, before copying over the next file...and so on....

If you crash after downloading a particular file, then use the default version of that file in your custom UI, and keep going until you finish all the desired customs....

This should help...at least I hope it does for you
